What the Workshop includes
Those of you that know me, know that I’m a passionate patch-worker and quilter, saving every little scrap of fabric from projects to repurpose into patch-work designs that are made into blankets, cushion covers, curtains, bags and clothes.
This workshop is intended as an introduction to the art of ‘modern’ quilting which takes a more abstract or free-form approach than the more formulated traditional patchwork patterns that use fabric blocks cut to standardised sizes and sewn together.
Patch-working and quilting can be a long process, a real labour of love. Rather than throwing you into the deep end, this Saturday session is intended as an introduction to set you on your quilting path. I will guide you through an improvisational, free form approach to quilting and teach you the necessary techniques to make your own beautiful quilted cloth design.
We will start by learning about the history and origins of modern quilting and gain inspiration from contemporary artists. I will then walk you through various design processes so that you can get to work creating your own quilted cloth piece. At the end of the day you will have a beautiful piece of work to take home with you and the skills to make more.
What’s Included:
Loafley in Tenby are providing us with a delicious lunch included in the price of the course. Upon booking, please let me know if you have any dietary requirements.
The studio is fully fitted with all the equipment and tools that you will need plus plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits!
There will be a selection of coloured cottons and linens for you to choose from as well as quilting batten and quilting threads. The fun is in matching colours and patterns together! A part of the beauty of patch-working is in the repurposing of fabric. Please feel free to bring along any leftover pieces of fabric from projects gone by or old clothing or textiles that has a special resonance for you!
Sewing Level: Some prior experience to sewing is required for this workshop, although it is suitable for beginners you should be able to operate a sewing machine. If you’re unsure whether your sewing ability is a good match then please feel free to get in touch and I can help you decide.
Accessibility: I aim to make these workshops as accessible as possible. Please let me know if you have any special requirements or any questions or concerns regarding access. I will be very happy to help anyway I can. You may also like to see the ‘Accessibility’ section on this website for more info.
