Eco Printing Lampshade Making Workshop

Join us for a beautiful, knowledge filled day of plant printing in the historic grounds of Manorbier Castle with me, artist Abi Makepeace.

During this botanical dyeing workshop you will learn about which plants release colour and what natural mordants can be used — essential for brightness, colourfastness and shifting tone.

After a brief introductions you will start the workshop with Eco printing with plants, which is the process of bundling natural material up in cloth and then steaming to create beautiful, mesmerising repeat patterns on cloth. It’s a accidental and experimental process and no two pieces ever look alike.

Whilst your eco printed cloth is steaming, you will then have a go at Hapazome, a plant printing process which involves hammering plants into cloth.

We will then stop to have a delicious lunch provided by Loafly bakery in Tenby. Please let mw know if you have any dietary requirements when booking.

After lunch you will unravel your eco printed bundles (this is the really fun and exciting bit!)… You will then select one of your fabric pieces to turn into a unique plant based lampshade that will have everyone asking you where you got it from!

All materials and lunch is provided and you will go home with your very home botanically printed lampshade as well as several pieces of plant printed cloth that can be used in an array of projects. The course covers all the basics that you need to continue plant dyeing independently at home.
